Brianna Hamblin has been a passionate storyteller since she was a little girl. She grew up in Stafford, Virginia, and then attended the University of Virginia, where she got her B.A. in both Media Studies and English.
Her time at UVA is where her journalism career began. She started off as an intern at the local Charlottesville broadcast station, CBS19 News, in the summer of 2015. She continued to shadow reporters and help in the newsroom every chance she got. By her second year as a student, she was hired as a part-time editor for the evening shows. Brianna also spent a summer as a reporter intern for the Charlotte Observer in the summer of 2017, where she wrote for the lifestyle and news sections of the paper. Meanwhile, at the University, she wrote for various publications, including the Cavalier Daily, the Virginia Advocate, and created video news reports for WUVA. She co-founded a Black student publication, Orphée Noir, and served as news editor, overseeing the work of other aspiring journalists. Brianna was also on the founding board and served as president of the first National Association of Black Journalists chapter at the University – NABJ at UVA. At her Department of Media Studies graduation ceremony, Brianna was awarded the Bernard Mayes Award, “for exemplifying the ideals of the Department of Media Studies Class of 2018.”
Her hard work and dedication to news as a student paid off. Before her last semester at UVA began, Brianna was hired as a multimedia journalist for CBS19 News. Brianna graduated from the University of Virginia in May 2018 and continued to serve as an MMJ and fill-in anchor at CBS19 for another two years. In the summer of 2020, Brianna moved to Rochester, New York, to be a morning reporter, multimedia journalist, and fill-in anchor. In the summer of 2022, she moved to Nashville to continue serving as a morning reporter. In the fall of 2024, Brianna returned to Virginia and began freelance reporting for WUSA9 in Washington, D.C. — a station she grew up watching.
Throughout her years of reporting, Brianna has covered a wide range of news, such as protests, major weather events such as snowstorms and tornadoes, local government issues, crime scenes, and court cases. She has also enjoyed conducting interactive live interviews, previewing exciting events, and discussing timely topics with organizers and leaders. Brianna's passion for journalism is evident in her stories that delve deeper into local issues or feature individuals making a difference in the community. She has learned that there is always more to discover and takes pride in the impact her reporting has had in the communities she has served.
In 2025, Brianna decided to take the storytelling and strategic communications skills she had developed as a journalist to officially begin a new path in her career as a communications specialist. She is currently a Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, supporting a NASA contract where she is able to continue to share exciting stories.
In her personal life, Brianna got married to the love of her life, Aaron Sanders, in June 2024. She enjoys spending her free time trying new restaurants with her husband, teaching dance fitness classes at her local gym, volunteering in her community, going on walks at the park with her dog, Cooper, taking care of her house plants, reading, and catching up on her favorite shows. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
